The S & D switch on this two-way radio earpiece/audio adapter stands for Simplex / Duplex (sometimes labelled as Motorola / Standard compatibility, depending on the manufacturer).
Its primary function is to reconfigure the internal pin wiring layout of the audio adapter so that it can match different radio models or communication modes. Specifically:
* S (Simplex): Configures the adapter to match standard single-frequency/simplex two-way radio wiring configurations (commonly used for standard walkie-talkies like Kenwood, Baofeng, or older analogue systems).
* D (Duplex): Switches the internal audio paths/grounding to support alternative wiring standards or semi-duplex/repeater setups required by certain multi-pin or specialised radio configurations.
If your earpiece audio sounds muffled, the microphone isn’t transmitting, or you are getting continuous static, toggling this switch to the alternative setting usually corrects the pinout mismatch between the radio body and the accessory.
